The complete renovation of a true loft space located in a converted glass factory. The original space was a single story with 14 foot ceilings with a very large roof terrace covering nearly the entire roof area. The existing space was rather dark, with only a singe window at one end and a large industrial skylight toward the rear. a smal spiral staircase in what is now the dining area provided access to the roof via a "pop-up" landing.
We removed 2 bays of the existing concrete roof and constructed a new second story which contains a master suite and access to the remaining roof terrace. The skylight was removed and glass walls installed to create an open air courtyard in the center of the loft. The new interior court provides a subtle separation between the living area and the guest rooms toward the rear. A floating steel staircase hovers over a tiled reflecting pool.
The new second floor nestles in between the existing concrete beams, and a landing and more steps lead up to an upper balcony which provides acess to the large roof terrace.
